(Separate trephine and Bone Screw Remover)
1. Measure the outside diameter of the screw and select trephine that matches screw
size.
2. Place trephine in handle of choice provided in the removal kit. Position trephine over
broken screw. Note: The Trephine should clear around the screw. Approximately 5mm
of screw should be exposed to properly seat the Trephine. To expose the broken screw,
use a clockwise and counter-clockwise motion while applying downward pressure.
Advance the trephine in this manner until the trephine reaches the broken screw.
Note: During this process the teeth of the trephine may become clogged with debris.
Remove trephine and clean debris from tool.
3. Select the bone screw remover that matches the diameter of the bone screw to be
removed. Place bone screw remover into handle and position bone screw remover
over the exposed screw. Use a counter-clockwise motion while applying downward
pressure. The bone screw remover will bite into the screw. Continue turning in a
counter-clockwise direction until the screw is completely removed.
Note: There may be bone in-growth on the screw preventing removal of the screw.
Depending on the surgical scenario and condition of implanted screws, the broken
screw remover may become damaged after normal usage. Inspect the broken screw
remover following usage to determine if any damage has occurred. Discontinue use if
damage is present.
The male hex drivers, female hex drivers, male hexalobe drivers, and custom drivers are
to be used with the appropriate ¼" square or AO ratcheting or fixed driver to remove
implanted screws. The driver type should be selected based on the appropriate
connection style of the implanted screw. Insert the appropriate driver tip into the
mating features of the implanted screw and rotate the driver in the counter-clockwise
direction to remove the screw.
The screw extractors can be used to remove stripped implanted screws. The screw
extractors are to be used with the appropriate ¼" square or AO ratcheting or fixed driver.
