After this initial start-up, the following checks must be carried out with the diesel pump at standstill and in safe mode:
Make sure there are no leaks in the water, oil and fuel circuits.
Check the oil and water levels and top up as necessary.
Make sure there are no loose nuts and bolts.

MAINTENANCE

6.1

Routine maintenance

It is necessary to observe all the maintenance instructions set down by the manufacturer to ensure the efficiency and good
working order of the diesel pump. Maintenance must always be carried out by specialized technicians with suitable equipment.
We recommend that you check the correct operation of the diesel pump at least once a month, especially its starting response
when the automatic starting device is triggered.
It is good practice to check the overall condition if the system as well.
Refer to the LAWS, REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS locally in force for more restrictive provisions on the subject of periodic
checks.
General and specific checks:
 Motor: perform the scheduled maintenance operations at periodic intervals according to the instructions provided in the
relevant engine handbook. Unless specified otherwise, it is advisable in particular to replace the (oil and fuel) filter cartridges,
to clean the air filter, to replace the engine oil after a maximum of every 300 working hours or a minimum of once a year, even
if the engine has been used for less than 300 working hours.
 Hydraulic section: refer to the specific documentation for further information.
 Battery: on a weekly basis, check the charging level and the level of electrolyte and top these up when necessary.
Before each operation, the qualified operator must make sure that the room is properly ventilated, and must have familiarized
himself with all the risks associated with lead starting batteries:
Danger of corrosive substances.
Danger of explosions.
Eye protection required.
Prohibition to use any naked flames in the vicinity, and the need to avoid all types of sparks.
The lead batteries used for the engines must be given a periodic inspection, checking the following as a minimum:
-
No breaks or signs of damage on the monoblock and on the cover of the battery, and/or leaking of fluid.
-
Make sure the batteries are clean
-
The poles are not oxidised or damaged.
The terminals of the cables are securely connected to the battery.
-
-
If present, loosen the caps to vent any gas inside the battery. The batteries contain sulphuric acid and release an explosive
gas, especially during recharging.
The level of electrolyte must always be above the level of the metal plates in the battery (in certain cases the level is also
-
marked on the external body of the battery). Top up with demineralized water if necessary and wait for the gas caused by
topping up to stop (this operation must be carried out, with the batteries disconnected, by a qualified worker familiar with the
risks).
Check the density of the electrolyte with the density meter, when this is available, to assess the charging level of the battery.
-
Observe the recommendations of the manufacturer of the battery. Remember to tighten the caps after using the density
meter.
Check the battery charger installed inside the diesel pump electrical starting control unit by reading the diagnostic LED's.
-
Consult the relative technical instruction sheet.
If the batteries are not recharged for a long period (6 months or more) you may find they will not charge

up again and need to be replaced.
When installing a battery always connect the positive terminal first.
To disconnect the battery, always start from the negative ground terminal. A battery is deemed to be
charged if its no-load voltage is greater than 12.4V. Battery charging must observe certain restrictions
imposed by the manufacturer. Use battery chargers with a max. constant voltage of 15V and with
charging current limits.
If the idle battery voltage is lower than 9V, disconnect the battery from the diesel pump and recharge it
using a high capacity quick charge battery charger. Observe the battery manufacturer's directions.
The batteries contain sulphuric acid (corrosive) and release an explosive gas, especially while
recharging. It is therefore indispensable to ventilate the room and not smoke or use naked flames near
the batteries.
 Electric panel: The electric panels do not require any particular maintenance. It is advisable, however, to check the fuses
once a week and the condition and cleanliness of the relays on an annual basis. It is forbidden to open the electric panel
