TRIP UNIT
Possible Cause
Solution
-- Rack circuit breaker to CONNECTED, TEST or DISCONNECTED remove racking handle and close circuit breaker.
-- Push orange button on Trip Unit and close circuit breaker.
-- Energize Undervoltage Release and close circuit breaker.
-- Remove interlocks.
-- Remove handle and close circuit breaker.
-- Check operational diagram (chapter 1.4) and trip the relevant circuit breaker.
-- Insert Breaker Information Module connector to Breaker Information Module.
-- Ensure the protection limits setting matches system loads. Ensure inputs are set to normally closed trip without a signal applied.
-- Re-position Coil.
-- Install Motor Actuator.
-- Refer to wiring schematic (see Section 1.3).
-- Push breaker into DISCONNECTED position.
-- Ensure racking drive is in DISCONNECTED position.
-- Install Trip Unit and energize. See Section 3 for wiring schematic.
-- Remove padlocks and/or key locks.
-- Reset Mis insertion feature.
-- Ensure circuit breaker and cassette go together.
-- Install Trip Unit, if not installed.
-- Trip Unit will power with 40% In single phase, and 20% In 3 phase current.
Possible Cause
Solution
At least 20% of the current sensor rating, (xCT) must be flowing through the breaker to activate the display.
If not, power the trip unit with the internal battery.
The battery power supply is disabled when any current is sensed through the current sensors.
Check that the control power supply is present and operational.
No communication with the BIM Check the BIM harness.
Mismatch trip unit / BIM option
Return the unit to GE.
Return the unit to GE.
Check the rating plug. The rating plug value shall not exceed and be below 40% of the breaker sensor.
Ensure the rating plug is properly sited.
Locate and repair the short or the incorrect connection.
Check that the baud rate assigned to the trip unit, agrees with the baud rate at the host.
Check that the address assigned to the trip unit, agrees with the address at the host.
Check the rating plug label.
Read the PT primary rating from the PT name plate and set trip unit PT to this value.
Replace the battery.
Power the trip unit with external power or by energizing the breaker for several days to freshen the battery.
