Can central venous catheters be removed?
Central Venous Catheters can be removed by a physician if needed – either
when intravenous therapy is no longer needed or if there are any concerns
about the catheter not working properly.
The removal of a catheter must be done by a medical professional. Do
not attempt to remove your catheter.
Do I have to follow-up with my health care provider?
Your doctor will schedule any necessary follow-up visits after the procedure.
What do I do with the implant card?
Keep your patient implant card with you.
Your patient implant card contains important information about the
Hickman™, Leonard™, or Broviac™ Central Venous Catheter you had
implanted. Be sure to show your implant card to any health care providers
that treat you in the future. If you require a magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) scan in the future, tell your doctor or MRI technician that you have an
implant and show them your implant card.
Safety during Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Hickman™, Leonard™, and Broviac™ Catheters have not been tested for
MRI compatibility.
