11. Re-install the cover (D, Figure 29) with screws (C,

Replacing the Ballast Transformer
Light tower trailers equipped with metal halide bulbs
require a ballast transformer and capacitor to operate.
See Specifications for the correct ballast transformer
and capacitor.
It is recommended that the ballast capacitor be replaced
at the same time as the ballast transformer to prevent
additional repair later on due to a failed capacitor.
To replace the ballast transformer:
1. Turn off the lights, and shut down the engine.
2. If the light tower is in the raised position, lower the
tower.
3. Allow capacitor time to discharge.
4. Remove front cover from the trailer.
5. Determine which ballast corresponds with which
fixture.
Note: Figure 29 shows the items for light fixtures 1
and 2. Other fixtures are similar.
6. Remove the screws (C, Figure 29) and cover (D,
Figure 29) from the ballast box corresponding to the
affected fixture.
7. Remove the white wires from the ballast transformer
(I, Figure 29) labeled:
A. "Com" from the 3-port lever lock.
B. "Lamp" from the 2-port lever lock with the red
wire.
C. "120V" from the 2-port lever lock with the black
wire.
D. "Cap" from the capacitor (H, Figure 29).
8. Remove the nuts (N, Figure 29), washers (O, Figure
29), screws (P, Figure 29), the green ground wire
and the ballast transformer (I, Figure 29). Properly
dispose of the transformer following federal, state,
local or province environmental regulations.
9. Install a new ballast transformer (I, Figure 29) using
screws (P, Figure 29), nuts (N, Figure 29), washers
(O, Figure 29). Install green ground wire as well.
10. Connect the white wires from the ballast transformer
(I, Figure 29) labeled:
A. "Com" to the 3-port lever lock.
B. "Lamp" to the 2-port lever lock with the red
wire.
C. "120V" to the 2-port lever lock with the black
wire.
D. "Cap" to the capacitor (H, Figure 29).
11. If replacing the ballast capacitor, replace at this time.
See steps 3 through 9 of Replacing the Capacitor .
12. Re-install the cover (D, Figure 29) with screws (C,
Figure 29).
13. Re-Install the front cover to the trailer.
14. Test the new capacitor to ensure proper operation.
