Information and safety instructions for the owner
X Use only genuine tools, spare parts and accessories as well as specified operating materials.
X Do not remove safety devices.
X In case of changes in the operating behavior stop operation immediately and have the fault eliminated.
2.6
Personal protective equipment
The following personal protective equipment must be worn while working at the system:
X Safety gloves 1/1/1/1 in accordance with EN 388 or 1/2/1/1 EN 407.
X Safety gloves DIN 12477, Type A for welding operation and DIN 388, Class 4 for mounting the electrode.
X Safety shoes to EN ISO 20345, Class SB.
X Eye protection to EN 170 and skin-covering safety clothing.
2.7
Remaining risks
2.7.1
Injury through high weight
A significant health hazard exists during lifting. Machine weights, observe chap. 5, p. 77!
Danger of impact and crushing exists in the following situations:
CAuTION!
Falling of the welding tongs during transportation, mounting/dismantling or setting up.
CAuTION!
Falling of the transport case caused by it being put down improperly.
CAuTION!
Falling of the welding tongs in case of impermissible usage in overhead position.
X Use a suitable means of transport to lift the transport case and to remove the welding tongs from the transport case.
X Place the transport case on a stable base near (approx. 1.5 m/ 4.9 ft) the welding power supply.
X Do not carry the transport case on a ladder.
X To set up the welding tongs place it flat and ensure that it cannot fall down.
X Welding tongs may not be used in overhead positions.
2.7.2
Prick injury through pointed electrode or, if applicable, cold wire (for KD ver
sions)
CAuTION!
Danger of being pricked by the electrode or, if appropriate, by the cold wire (for KD versions)
for the operator as well as for third parties while taking hold of the welding tongs.
X Do not take hold of the welding tongs at the position of the electrode or of the cold wire (for KD versions)
X Before storing the welding tongs in the transport case: Remove the electrode and, if applicable, the cold wire (for KD versions).

2.7.3
Danger of crushing through rotating rotor
CAuTION!
Danger of crushing!
Danger of crushing exists in the following situations:
• The rotor starts up unintentionally during setting up. Hands and fingers are crushed.
• The rotor is moved to the Home position after setting up. Hair and clothing is pulled into the housing through the toothing.
X Wear tight-fitting clothes.
X Do not wear open hair, jewelry or other accessories that can be easily drawn in.
X Before connecting the welding tongs and before mounting the electrode: Switch off the control unit of the Orbital welding
system.
2.7.4
Danger of crushing through being caught in by moving parts
CAuTION!
Hands and fingers can be caught in and crushed while setting up the welding tongs.
X Before setting up or before an electrode replacement: Place the welding tongs on the base.
X Switch off the welding power supply before setting up or before an electrode replacement.
2.7.5
Danger of cuts at sharp edges
CAuTION!
Danger of cut injuries caused by sharp tube edges when clamping the welding tongs at the
tube.
X Wear safety gloves 1/1/1/1 in accordance with EN 388 or 1/2/1/1 EN 407.
2.7.6
Burns and danger of fire through high temperatures
CAuTION!
The welding tongs is hot after welding. Very high temperatures arise in particular after several
consecutive welding processes. There is a danger of burns or damage to the points of contact when
working on the welding tongs (for example when changing clamps or mounting/removing the
electrodes). Materials without thermal resistance (for example foam inlay of the transport case)
can be damaged when coming into contact with the hot welding tongs.
WARNING!
Thermal problems can arise in the case of incorrect positioning of the welding tongs or the
use of impermissible materials in the welding area. In the worst case a fire will be started.
Observe the local general fire protection measures.
X Wear safety gloves 1/1/1/1 in accordance with EN 388 or 1/2/1/1 EN 407.
X Wait until the surfaces have cooled down to below 50 °C (122 F) before working on the welding tongs or before packing into
the transport case.
X Position the welding tongs correctly.
X Use only permissible materials in the welding area.
