markings and numbers on the device correspond to the lengths
of Blom-Singer Voice Prostheses. The product is packaged with
three sizer inserters and replacement inserters are also available
separately. This device is only available for use by a qualified,
trained medical professional.
Dilator-Sizer
The Blom-Singer Dilator-Sizer (diagram 3) is a combination
Puncture Dilator and Voice Prosthesis Sizer. The Dilator-Sizer is
used to dilate the puncture to ease voice prosthesis insertion; and
as a Voice Prosthesis Sizer, it is used to measure the length of the
tracheoesophageal puncture tract between the trachea and the
esophagus to determine the appropriate voice prosthesis length.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The following procedure is provided by Eric D. Blom, Ph.D. Please
refer to the diagrams located at the back of this instruction manual.
The Blom-Singer Dilation/Sizing device and user's hands
should always be thoroughly clean to help avoid introducing
contaminants into the tracheostoma, puncture, or esophagus. Do
not use solvents or petroleum-based products for cleaning these
devices. These materials may damage silicone (see cleaning and
sterilization instructions).
Removal and insertion of devices in the puncture should only be
done with the user positioned in front of a mirror with a bright
light focused directly into the stoma. Care should be exercised to
avoid inhaling prosthetic devices into the airway. In the unlikely
event that this should occur, the patient should attempt to cough
the device out of the windpipe and immediately seek medical
attention if unsuccessful.
Dilation of the TE Puncture (User/Clinician)
Dilate the TE puncture with either the Puncture Dilator (User)
or the Dilator-Sizer (Clinician) of the appropriate diameter (see
