4 Description
The SERVOX
digital XL consists of the SERVOX
®
®
sories described in the scope of delivery.
The SERVOX
speech aid is an electrically operated handset made of plastic, with a sleeve made of
®
titanium. The SERVOX
®
digital XL screw cap screwed onto the upper end of the speech aid contains a
transducer and a diaphragm for transmitting vibrations.
Activated by pressing a button, this transducer vibrates to produce a sound. If the speech aid is pres-
sed with the screw cap onto one of the application points on the cheek, base of the mouth or neck,
this sound is transmitted through the tissue into the mouth/throat and can be formed with speaking
movements of the lips, tongue and used for speaking. Volume and sound can be adjusted via a volu-
me control and by turning the screw cap. The speech aid can be operated either with AAA rechargea-
ble batteries or with AAA batteries.
Patients who have lost their vocal cords or cannot use them due to injury, illness or surgical removal
of the larynx (laryngectomy) can use the sounds produced by the SERVOX
speak.

5 Application
5.1 Readiness for use and deactivation of the SERVOX
The speech aid is ready for use as soon as charged rechargeable batteries or normal batteries are in-
serted and the base cover is firmly screwed on.
If the speech aid is to be deactivated for a short time, turn the bottom cover approx. one
turn to the left, anticlockwise. If the bottom cover is not completely screwed on, the contact to
the batteries is interrupted.
To restore readiness for use, turn the bottom cover back to the right clockwise. When the
bottom cover is completely unscrewed, the contact to the batteries is re-established.
5.2 Removing and inserting batteries
Attention
•
Always observe the information and safety instructions on the packaging of batteries!
•
Do not use defective or damaged rechargeable batteries!
•
Do not use rechargeable batteries and batteries at the same time!
•

•
If the SERVOX
digital XL speech aid will not be used for a long time, remove the batteries from
®
the speech aid. Batteries can corrode or leak and then damage the speech aid.
•
Do not dispose of batteries in the household waste!
Note
• Before first use, fully charge the rechargeable batteries. (Follow the instructions for use of
the rechargeable batteries and charger!)
• Always have 4 charged spare rechargeable batteries/4 full AAA batteries ready to use the
