5.6.3 Definition of SINK/SOURCE and SSR connections
Marposs electronic devices exchange information with the PLC/CNC via digital Input/Output signals. The
output circuits can be viewed as "SWITCHES" while the input circuits can be viewed as "LOADS".
In order to meet the requirements of the various manufacturers and users, E32A SSR is equipped with two
outputs, a SINK/SOURCE type and a solid state relay (SSR).
The following is a brief description of the SINK/SOURCE and SSR concepts, designed to make it easier to
understand the E32A SSR interface.

The above circuit consists of a DC power supply and two generic loads, supplied via two switches.
A SINK connection is when the switch "DRAWS" current from the load; note that the current I2 flows from
conductor A, via the load to the switch, into conductor B.
A SOURCE connection is when the switch SUPPLIES current, via the load, into conductor B.
The following example is based on 24 DC I/O. As has been stated, the interface is equipped with two output
types: a SINK/SOURCE and a SSR.
The figure illustrates the circuit diagrams of the three output types.

It is important to stress that the SINK/SOURCE output consists of a single terminal O, the other terminal
being connected internally to –Vee / +Vdc (depending on the selected operating mode). The SSR output
consists of two terminals OA and OB, neither of which is connected to –Vee / +Vdc. It is left to the user to
decide which output to use, based on the required machine signal management mode.
