• CONNECTING ROD BEARING OIL CLEARANCE
1) Clean the crank pin and the bearing of the connecting rod
cap assembly. Check the crank pin and the bearing for wear
1
or damage.
2) Install the crankshaft on the cylinder block. Install the
2
connecting rod cap assembly on the connecting rod, and
tighten the connecting rod nut to the specified torque (P.
10-26).
3
3) Remove the connecting rod cap assembly and set a
plastigauge on the crank pin as shown.
4
• Set the plastigauge in the axial direction.
5
• Avoid the oil passage in the bearing journal to set the
plastigauge.
6
4) Reinstall the connecting rod cap assembly on the
connecting rod, and tighten the connecting rod nut to the
7
specified torque (P. 10-26).
8
• Tighten the connecting rod nut with care not to turn the
crankshaft and/or the connecting rod.
9
5) Remove the connecting rod cap assembly. Measure the
compressed width of the plastigauge using the scale
10
printed on the bag of the plastigauge.
11
• Measure the widest width on the plastigauge.
12
Standard
0.020 - 0.038 mm
13
(0.0008 - 0.0015 in)
6) If the measurement exceeds the service limit, replace with
14
an undersize bearing by referring to the connecting rod
bearing selection table (P. 10-17). Recheck the connecting
15
rod bearing oil clearance.
If the measurement still exceeds the service limit, replace
16
the crankshaft with a new one.
• CRANKSHAFT MAIN JOURNAL O.D.
17
Measure the crankshaft main journal O.D.
18
Standard
