CRUISE CONTROL
A All functions electronically controlled for preci-
sion handling and reliability.
B Power delivery by electric vacuum pump for
accurate throttling even when the engine is
heavily loaded, e.g. driving uphill. This means
there is no vacuum take-off from the engine to
spoil fuel economy.
C Control switches built into direction indicator.
The car's normal direction indicator arm is re-
placed by a lever which, in addition to its nor-
mal function, incorporates fylly built-in Cruise
Control functions. So there is no need for an
array of extra controls mounted at various
points inside the vehicle.
D The standard throttle rollers in the engine com-
partment are manufactured in accordance with
the safety regulations of a number of countries.
The car's ordinary throttle rollers are replaced
.. l:>y a special Cruise Control throttle fulfilling all
· legal requirements. No need for specially
mounted extras which may make the vehicle
less safe.
- No long throttle wires required in the engine
compartment making installation difficult. This
is because the electric vacuum pump is con-
nected to the Cruise control servo unit by rub-
ber hoses.
E Speed read off from the vehicle's own speedo-
meter - hence, no need for magnets mounted
on the drive shaft where they are continuously
exposed to the dirt of the road.
F Cut-out switch on brake and clutch pedals dis-
connects electricity and releases vacuum from
system. This ensures there will be no undesired
acceleration after cut-out as a result of in-
complete vacuum release from the system.

CllUISt CONTROL
With the Volvo Cruise Control switched on, the
car automati.caHy maintains a constant speed,
mile after,mHe, uphill or down. You accelerate to
the desireä speed, gently press the "speed-set"
switch mounted at the end of the direction .indica-
tor arm and the Volvo Cruise Control takes over
speed control. You can remove your foot from the
accelerator.
It you want a temporary increase in speed - to
overtake another vehicle, for instance -
just
press the gas pedal as usual. As you take your
foot off the pedal the car will smoothly resume the
speed you previously selected. lf you need to bra-
ke suddenly, e.g. to;avoid h.itting an unexpected
obstacle, the Volvo Gn.iise Control disconnects
the instant you touch·the!bral<.e.
The Cruise Control is an electriollicaMy governed
servo system whrch senses the relatiol'lship be-
tween engine speed and the speed at which the
car is actually travelling. Thanks to its electronic
control, the system functions rapidly and with a
high degree of precision. It is impossible to
achieve such exact speeds by using the accelera-
tor alone.
