11.1 INITIAL TREATMENT AT THE POINT OF USE
Before cleaning, the Deflector Shaft must be disassembled from the Shaver
Handpiece and the single use Deflector Blade must be removed (see chapter 9).
Placing the Deflector Shaft in a pH-neutral, cold solution immediately after the
operating action can minimize the drying of the operation residues and makes
the subsequent processing procedure easier.
11.2 PRETREATMENT
Directly after use (within no longer than 2 h), coarse surface dirt must be remo-
ved from the Deflector Shaft.
Use running water or a disinfectant solution.
The disinfectant should:
• be free of aldehydes (these fixate blood residues)
• have a validated efficacy (e.g. be approved by VAH/DGHM or FDA or
bear a CE Marking),
• be suitable for the disinfection of the Deflector Shaft
• be compatible with the Deflector Shaft (refer to chapter "15 Material
Durability").
To manually remove dirt, only use a clean, soft and moistened cloth used for this
purpose only and wipe the Deflector Shaft. Take especial care of the distal end
of this device. Never use metal brushes or steel wool.
Rinse the lumen of the Deflector Shaft at least five times by using a disposa-
ble syringe or a water pistol (volume 20 – 50 ml). Rinsing can be done easily
by using the Luer-Lock connection on the product. Move movable parts around
several times during cleaning.
Please note that the pretreatment mentioned above is mandatory
for the further successful processing of this device.
Please note that the disinfectant used for pretreatment cannot
replace the subsequent – after cleaning – performable disinfec-
tion step.
11.3 MECHANICAL CLEANING/DISINFECTION USING A
CLEANING AND DISINFECTION UNIT
When selecting the washer-disinfector unit, ensure the following:
• that the washer-disinfector unit has validated efficacy (e.g. DGHM or
FDA approval or CE Marking according to DIN EN ISO 15883),
• that, if possible, a validated thermal disinfection program (A
in older devices, at least 5 min at 90°C) is used.
Chemical disinfection poses the hazard of disinfectant residues
on the Deflector Shaft.
