A visual and functional inspection must be carried out prior to
every use! Potentially visible contamination and mechanical de-
fects shall be detected to avoid using a defective or soiled device.
Medical devices with any defect are not allowed to be used any
more. Medical devices, which still are soiled, must be cleaned
and disinfected again.
12.2 MAINTENANCE
The Deflector Shaft is not a decomposable medical device.
For maintenance, only instrument oils (white medical oil) should be used which
are approved for steam sterilization and possess attested biocompatibility –
with consideration to the maximum applied sterilization temperature. The oils
may be applied to the positions of the Deflector Shaft after a cleaning/disinfec-
tion procedure and before sterilization as described in figure 14.

13. PACKAGING AND STERILIZATION
13.1 PACKAGING
After cleaning and disinfection, the Deflector Shaft is packed in a suitable steri-
le barrier system (SBS) for sterilization. The Deflector Shaft can either be packed
directly or within the cleaning and sterilization tray (REF JSBDSST4680) into the
SBS. However, for reason of mechanical protection of the Deflector Shaft, the
latter option is recommended. Before packing into the SBS, assure that the used
packaging complies with the following requirements:
• DIN EN ISO/ANSI AAMI ISO 11607
• Suitable for steam sterilization (heat resistant minimum 141 °C (286 °F)
sufficient vapor permeability
• Sufficient protection for the instruments or sterilization packaging from
mechanical damage
