Prior to the MRI examination, an individual
with the proper knowledge of MRI equipment
such as an MRI-trained radiologist or MRI
physicist must ensure the MRI examination
will be conducted according to the information
outlined in this document.
Note: Due to the additional requirements in
these instructions, MRI examination time may
be significantly extended.
MRI exposure requirements
Prior to an MRI examination, determine
whether the patient has another active or
passive medical implant. If the patient has any
other active or passive medical implant from a
manufacturer that prohibits or contraindicates
an MRI examination then you should NOT
conduct an MRI examination. The instructions
in this document apply only to Boston
Scientific products described herein.
If the following requirements cannot be met,
do NOT proceed with the MRI examination.
• Use only a transmit/receive RF head coil.
◦ Important Note: If you are unsure
if your MRI system has a transmit/
receive RF head coil capability or if
you are unsure if your MRI system
displays "head SAR", check with your
MRI system manufacturer.
• No component of the Precision SCS
System (i.e. the implanted leads, IPG,
etc) extends into the head coil.
• Use only a 1.5 Tesla, horizontal bore
MRI system (i.e., do not use open-sided
or MRI systems operating at other static
magnetic field strengths).
• Ensure MRI system is in the Normal
Operating Mode.

Note: The requirements provided in this
document are based on in-vitro testing and
should result in a safe MRI examination of a
patient with the Precision SCS System when
all instructions in this document are followed.
However, due to the many variables that affect
safety, the safety of patients or continued
functionality of the Precision SCS System
exposed to MRI cannot be absolutely ensured.
Preparation for the MRI
examination
The following procedures must be followed
prior to performing an MRI examination on a
patient with the Precision SCS System:
1. Determine if the patient has an implant
Precision™ Spinal Cord Stimulator System 1.5 Tesla MRI Guidelines
must meet the following requirements.
If they do not, the parameters must be
adjusted so that they comply with these
requirements.
◦ Ensure dB/dt is limited to no more
than 20 Tesla per second.
◦ Use MRI examination pulse sequence
parameters that limit the MRI system-
reported head SAR level to 1.5 W/kg
or less for all sequences.
◦ Maximum static field spatial gradient
less than or equal to 40 T/m
(4000 gauss/cm).

or condition that would prohibit or
contraindicate the MRI examination. Do
NOT conduct an MRI examination if any
implant or condition is present that would
prohibit or contraindicate the procedure.
