- Depending on the characteristics and
functions of the DEF fluid circulation
GB
system, topping up is necessary only
when the DEF fluid level indicator
shows a value below 50% and not lower
than 15% of content (corresponding to
a minimum value of approx. two litres
of DEF fluid).
- If the engine is used with DEF fluid
quantity lower than 15%, the system
generates a protection warning: both
the MIL and DWS warning lights turn
on with light steady on. Top up the DEF
fluid in the tank (as described on page
37). When the topping up has been
carried out, start the engine to allow
MIL and DWS warning light reset. Turn
off the engine after reset.
- If the engine is used with DEF fluid
quantity lower than 5%, the system
generates another protection warning:
the MIL warning light turns steady
on and the DWS warning light turns
flashing on. When the topping up has
been carried out, start the engine to
allow MIL and DWS warning light reset.
Turn off the engine after reset.
If MIL and DWS warning lights turn on
with a quantity of DEF fluid in the tank
greater than the minimum quantity (15%),
promptly contact the manufacturer of the
vehicle in which the engine is installed or
a workshop authorised by VM MOTORI
FCA ITALY.

- Without DEF liquid, the engine
continues to run only at a reduced
speed, in an unsuitable state of use
(signalled by the DWS warning light on
and the MIL warning light on).
- It is recommended to replace the DEF
fluid in the tank after 4 (four) months.
- Avoid frequent filling with a
percentage level of DEF fluid equal
to or greater than 50%, as the system
may generate a plausibility error in the
actual consumption of DEF fluid.
