GALVANIC ANODE INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT
For protection against corrosion, the engine is equipped with an anode located on the upper part of the
rear cover of the water-to-water heat exchanger.
IMPORTANT
The time interval for checking and replacing
the anode is variable depending on the
characteristics of the water circulating in the
sea water circuit and the engine service mode.
To check and service the anode:
1 - Operate with the engine in lukewarm or cold
condition. Ignition key off and battery negative
cable disconnected.
2 - With the engine off, close the sea inlet if pres-
ent, or plug the sea water suction pipe.
3 - Drain the sea water circuit following the proce-
dure on page 50.
4 - Remove the anode assembly (cap + seal +
anode) from the rear cover of the water-to-water
exchanger.
IMPORTANT
in order to assess the degree of corrosion of
the anode itself.
Avoid using a metal brush as the marks left on
the anode, during the removal of deposits, can
accelerate of the decay of the anode.
5 - After removing the deposits, check and meas-
ure the galvanic anode, which must be replaced if
the length is less than 10 mm, or if the surface is
widely deteriorated and worn out.
6 - The seal must be replaced anyhow.
7 - Mount a new anode assembly on the cover of
English
8 - Re-open the sea water inlet or the sea water
suction pipe ensuring that an adequate amount of
water circulates in the sea water circuit.
9 - Start the engine and keep it at idle speed for
the time necessary to check for leaks.
10- Turn off the engine.

Please contact an authorised VM MOTORI FCA
ITALY workshop if needed.
IMPORTANT
Do not dump any polluting material in the en-
vironment. Carry out their disposal in compli-
ance with the relevant legislation in force.
