7. FUEL STRAINER
[HIGH PRESSURE SIDE]

Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive.

You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel.
4
• Keep heat, sparks, and flame away.
• Wipe up spills immediately.
5
• Handle fuel only outdoors.
• Replace the sealing washer with a new one whenever the
6
service check bolt is loosened or removed.
• After installing the fuel strainer [high pressure side], check for
7
gasoline leakage from each joint.
Replace the fuel strainer [high pressure side] at the
8
replacement interval shown or in the following case.
• Regular replacement period of every two years or 400
9
operating hours
• When the fuel pump [high pressure side] and the pressure
10
regulator are normal but the gasoline discharge volume of
the fuel pump [high pressure side] is less than the standard
discharge volume (P. 5-82)

Inspection:

1) Remove the engine cover (P. 4-2).

2) Relieve the fuel pressure according to "How to relieve fuel
pressure" (P. 5-79).

3) Place a shop towel under the strainer cover.
Remove the three 5 mm screw washers and remove the
15
strainer cover from the vapor separator assembly.
4) Remove the fuel strainer screen, spring and the two O-rings
16
from the vapor separator assembly.
Replace the O-rings with the new ones on reassembly.

5) Check the fuel strainer screen for contamination, blockage
with foreign material or tears. Replace the fuel strainer
18
screen if necessary.

Reassembly:
1) Apply engine oil to a new O-ring and install it on the vapor
separator assembly.

2) Set the spring in the recess in the vapor separator
assembly, and set the fuel strainer screen in the vapor
separator assembly as shown.
3) Install the strainer cover on the vapor separator assembly
and tighten the three 5 mm screw washers securely.
4) Install a new sealing washer on the service check bolt and
tighten the service check bolt to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 11.8 N . m (1.2 kgf . m, 9 lbf . ft)
5) Install the engine cover (P. 4-2).
