12. TIMING BELT

Inspection:
Remove the following parts.
- Engine cover (P. 4-2)

- Alternator cover (P. 7-2)
Check the timing belt for wear or damage.

Replace the timing belt with a new one if necessary (P. 7-6).

Belt Tension Adjustment:
Remove the following parts.

- Engine cover (P. 4-2)
- Alternator cover (P. 7-2)

1) Bring the No.1 piston to the top dead center of its
compression stroke (P. 3-10).

2) Remove the timing belt tensioner cap and loosen the 10 x
38 mm flange bolt that tightens the timing belt tensioner.

3) Turn the alternator rotor counterclockwise until the pulser

rotor turns 2 revolutions.

• Note to turn the pulser rotor 2 revolutions by turning the
alternator rotor.

• Turn the alternator rotor counterclockwise. Never turn it
clockwise.
