AUTOMATED IMPELLA CONTROLLER WITH
SMARTASSIST

The Automated Impella Controller with SmartAssist
Catheter during Case Start. When the Automated Impella Controller
with SmartAssist detects an error in the connection of the catheter, the
following Case Start screens prompt you through corrective actions.
Corrective Action
STEP 1 - Visual Connector Inspection
During the priming of the Impella CP with SmartAssist or Impella 5.5
with SmartAssist catheters, if the SmartAssist System Error screen
appears, follow the prompts on the screen and reference the following
steps:
•
Disconnect the white cable and inspect the connector on the
Automated Impella Controller.
•
Visually inspect the light at eye level as shown on the Automated
Impella Controller screen.
(Note: Light is not visible if inspected at an angle.)
•
If you cannot see visible light, select NO and switch to a backup
controller.
•
If you see visible light, select YES and proceed to Step 2 below.
Corrective Action
STEP 2 - Visual Inspection for Kinks
If you selected YES in Step 1, follow the prompts on the screen and
reference the following steps:
•
Check for kinks in the catheter and cable.
•
Clean connectors as shown on the screen.
Reconnect white cable and select DONE.
•
Proceed to Step 3

STEP 3 - Placement Monitoring Not Available
After selecting DONE in Step 2 and the Automated Impella Controller
still detects an error, follow the prompts on the screen and use the
following steps
•
Replace the Impella Catheter or
Select OK to continue without placement and suction monitoring

STEP 4 - Confirmation Screen
If you selected OK in Step 3, you are prompted once again to confirm
your selection to proceed without placement and suction monitoring.
Follow the prompts on the screen and use the following steps
